“She’s what?” The world felt like it was falling out from under Apollo’s feet. What Ares said couldn’t be possible. His twin sister, Artemis, was a full fledged goddess. She just couldn’t be taken like a common mortal.
His gaze drifted around the living space of his beach house as he struggled to get his world under control. He forced himself to concentrate of the surfboard propped against the wall.
When had everything become blue? Which one of his lovers decided this was a good option? It was just white like an hour ago.
His thoughts were a blur. Artemis.
“How could someone just take her?” Deidre demanded.
Ares swiped at the blood on his forehead. “Trust me, I wish I knew. If I did, there would have been a bunch of dead Unworldlies. But I couldn’t even touch them.”
Apollo finally lifted his gaze to his half brother’s. “We need to find her.”
“We will,” Ares assured him.
“You don’t understand. Other than these two, she’s my world. She’s been there since before we were born. If anything happens to her…” His words were cut off with a sob. Khalil pulled him into a tight embrace.
“We need to call the family together,” Ares advised. “There’s nothing the four of us are going to solve. I promise we’ll get her back, Apollo.”
“I’m holding you to that,” Deirdre warned.
“You must be a firecracker in the sack.”
An audible growl from Deirdre was warning enough. Ares disappeared as quickly as he arrived. Apollo blinked back the tears that blurred his vision.
“Tell us what you need, my love,” Khalil coaxed as he soothed the god’s hair from his face.
“I need my sister back,” Apollo insisted.
