“Love you too.” She pushed the screen door open and stepped out onto the porch. She took a moment to survey the camp. There was still debris everywhere. The UV lamps that had once guarded the camp were now in a heap at the edge of the property. A large branch the size of one of her cars took up residence in the middle of the clearing. There was still glass scattered along the dirt and most likely in the grass. That would have to be picked up before the kids could play outdoors.

However, everything looked far better than when they arrived the night before. She gave the situation a small smile before descending the steps toward the main building.

When she slipped inside, she found Dakota hovering over the sink scrubbing at something. The deadly vampire hunter was wearing a T-shirt full of fluffy kittens and wrapped in an apron. A blonde beside her scraped rotting food off a refrigerator shelf into a trash can and began scrubbing it. There was a lingering odor in the room that was about enough to make Maya’s stomach turn.

Dakota beamed at her. “Good morning. How are you doing getting situated around here?”

“I’m getting there. Wish I had different clothes though,” Maya answered.

The blonde looked at her. “I might have something that you can wear.” She set the rag and shelf down on the counter. Wiping her hands on her jeans, she extended one out to Maya. “I’m Sarah. I’m Josiah’s mate. You massively impressed him last night. He couldn’t stop talking about what you did. He even dragged me out of bed to witness it. And I am so glad to be sleeping in my own bed. Thank you for that.”

Maya shook the hand offered to her. “I’m happy to do it.” She glanced around the kitchen. “Do you need help?”

“Believe it or not, we’re almost done. Joe, Littlefoot, and Zeke went to town to get more groceries. You’re welcome to stay and bake with us. It’s something we mates do. We even get Henry involved. It helps us non-Hallows bond with each other. Momma should be here any time now.”

The moment Maya heard the word “Momma”, her blood froze. She couldn’t face the matron Hallow. Once Momma knew who sired her, it would be bad. Very bad. “Sorry, I’ll have to pass.”
