Apollo struggled against the attraction he had for this guy, but he had to get away. Somewhere along the way someone in his family fucked up and he was about to pay for it in a big way. “Listen, Bud. It’s nice meeting you but I got to go..”
Khalil’s eyes dropped to his own hand. Apollo’s followed out of plain curiosity. Cupped only Khalil’s palm, where no other bar patron could see, a tiny iridescent flame danced.
Freddy’s words from the night before pounded in Apollo’s brain. He sucked in a hard breath. His voice was ragged when he spoke. “Maybe we should go someplace more private.”
“Sounds like a plan.”
Apollo tossed a few bills on the bar for the drinks then stood to leave. He glanced towards the back of the bar again, his gaze meeting the redheaded beauty he was watching earlier. Something deep inside him tugged him towards her until Khalil touched her arm.
“Ready to go?” Khalil urged.
“Yep, this way.” Apollo motioned towards the door then followed Khalil to it. He held the door open for his mystery surfer then jogged to catch up with him.
The walk to the beach house was silent. More than once, Apollo wanted to reach out and take Khalil’s hand in his. But it was apparent that they didn’t know each other that well. At least he didn’t know Khalil. It seemed that the surfer knew far more about him than he should. As far as Apollo knew, his new friend was plotting to kill him. Not that he could die. He was a god. But then again, his half sister almost did so it wasn’t a defense he could hold tight to anymore.
These were certainly some strange times.
The god glanced back at his guest as he jammed the key in the lock and twisted the knob. He motioned Khalil in before him then stormed past him to the kitchen. He popped open the refrigerator to retrieve a couple bottles of beer then slammed it shut. Popping the tops off, he returned to the living area to find Khalil taking the space in with awe.
“Never been in a house?” Apollo questioned as he offered a bottle to Khalil.
Khalil scowled. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Wow. What a sunny disposition. That little trick at the bar. That’s not something humans can do. So I’m not sure if your type of beings know what being indoors is like since I have no idea what you are.”
Khalil took the bottle from him then sat it on the end table. Before Apollo could scold him for his lack of use of a coaster, he caught the god’s wrist in his hand and tugged him into his arms. Apollo moaned as Khalil parted his mouth with his own.
