The waitress stared at him for a long moment before she wandered away. Ezekiel sighed as he took another drink of coffee. This was definitely a new world he was in here in the South. Here, everyday folks knew what was after them and they bonded together to survive it.
Maybe they should try that back in Duluth. It would work, except for the fact they would probably have to tell everyone they werewolves. Second thought, he should scrap that thought.
A plate of steaming breakfast food was pushed in front of him followed by a carafe of coffee. A bowl heaped with mint chocolate chip ice cream smothered in chocolate sauce, whipped cream, chopped peanuts and a cherry brought up the rear like an afterthought.
Ezekiel scowled, puzzled, at his waitress. “Ice cream for breakfast?”
She gave him a shrug. “Something about you tells me you’re gonna need it.”
She shuffled down the counter to help the other customers. Ezekiel cupped his fingers around the bowl and tugged it in front of him. The eggs could wait. Momma would have never allowed this as a morning meal, even when they were adults and mint chocolate chip was his favorite.
Once he finished his dessert, his entire meal and the full pot of coffee, he paid his bill. He left a hefty tip under the plate and he studied the cross behind the counter once more. The poor woman lived in this mess. She deserved it.
He made his way to the truck and hopped in. After looking up directions to Nashville on his maps app, he fired it on and sped down the highway.
When night fell, he was a few miles outside the city limits. He turned off the road at a campground sign.
