The dark silhouettes of the tree line nearly blocked the taillights of Dakota’s bike from Ezekiel’s sight. The place was starting to remind him of home. Ahead, he could see the ripple of water reflected in the moonlight.
Night had already fallen before they got back to the campground to get Dakota’s motorcycle. The ranger looked a little annoyed when Ezekiel told him he was leaving. Granted, the guy might have been asleep but Ezekiel wasn’t about to wait. Dakota had someplace to be and Ezekiel wasn’t about to let her go alone. There were dangerous things looking for blood. That and the mating urge was so strong it was starting to scramble his mind.
They stopped at a bar long enough for a beer and a greasy burger each before driving to this lake. Ezekiel didn’t miss the black and red cross behind the bar above the multicolored glass bottles. Then they hit the road to the middle of nowhere to sleep. It wasn’t creepy or anything. Okay, maybe this was freaking him out a little. Not enough to make him change his mind, but it was spooking him nonetheless.
She stopped next to the water’s edge then the lights went dark. Ezekiel pulled up beside her and shut off the motor. She was leaning against her bike as he climbed out.
“I offered to get a hotel room.” Ezekiel sauntered towards her.
“You keep spending your money on motels, you’ll be broke in no time,” she chided. She motioned to the trees around them. “Will this do for you?”
Ezekiel grinned as he pulled her into his arms. “I’m not fussy.”
His lips caught hers as he held her tighter, feeling her melt in his arms. His whole body flared hot at her touch. Finally the mating thing worked for him.
She pulled away and smiled. “Before you get excited, you might want to get to work on the air mattress in the saddlebag of my bike.”
“You carry a saddlebag with an air mattress in it?”
“You’d be surprised what you’d find in it. I live on my bike.”
“We could sleep on the ground.”
“In the mud?”
“Or,” he pulled her into another kiss. She parted her lips to deepen it. The air mattress was going to have to wait. He didn’t have the patience for it at the moment. There was plenty of room in the front of his truck for two. All he wanted was her naked.
